ACON HOUSE
Built Area:
75 m2
Project Architect:
Pietro Stagno
Location:
Ciudad Colón, Mora, San José, Costa Rica
This one-bedroom house for a single man with his dog is an example of small-scale ecological design adapted to a rural area of the Central Valley of Costa Rica. It represents a thoughtful approach to Eco-friendly Design in Rural Areas.
The house is built with a light steel structure, uses fiber cement as the main material, and wood ceilings. These materials, mostly of low ecological footprint, minimize the environmental impact of the construction. Raised from the ground, it ensures that the rain runs freely on the hill without affecting the house, which makes it dry and cool.
The main space has large windows that expand the space with their bow windows, and allow for natural light and cross ventilation; it is accompanied by a generous terrace which reinforces its sustainable and efficient approach.
Being a simple unit, color accents were given to the main door and neutral finishes inside, in order to generate a simple atmosphere that welcomes the changes of daylight.
This house stands as a clear example of Eco-friendly Design in Rural Areas, dressed with constructive details in the joints between architectural elements and the textures of its finishes.
