Yaba Chigui B&B is a small-scale hospitality project defined by tropical ecological architecture, where laminated wood structures shape a central gathering area for breakfast by the pool, immersed in the surrounding tropical landscape.

The design seeks sustainable architecture that respects local traditions while reinterpreting pre-Columbian Costa Rican palenques. Its radial laminated wood structure and multiple roofs allow generous natural lighting, cross ventilation, and spatial openness—avoiding the need for air conditioning and creating a naturally comfortable environment.

The private cabins, with diagonal roofs resembling leaves, each feature a bedroom, a desk behind the bed, a bathroom with an outdoor shower, and a private balcony facing the river—ideal for couples or travelers seeking rest and reconnection with nature.

Built with a light steel structure, the cabins integrate sustainable strategies such as wide overhangs, local materials, and suspended terraces over the river, offering an intimate experience with the tropical surroundings.

As part of the ecological cycle, rainwater is collected from the roofs through large design-integrated funnels, complemented by a woven steel screen that defines a small private patio with an outdoor shower.

The property also includes the owners’ residence, divided into descending modules that adapt to the terrain, respecting the natural slope and minimizing landscape intervention.

A tropical garden of native species enhances biodiversity and privacy among the units.

Yaba Chigui B&B stands as a reference of architecture in Ojochal, Uvita, a project where tropical ecological architecture and sustainable design converge—blending natural materials, passive cooling, and rainwater collection into an immersive tropical living experience.
