We consider this project a good example of sustainable architecture for educational buildings, where we sought to innovate in the spaces and in the image of the building through the innovative facade, while optimizing the design of the engineering.
Designed with Stagno Studio, the goal was to achieve efficient solutions in its hydrothermal Comfort, though natural ventilation was optimized through internal ducts, which reduced mechanical conditioning demand. In order of energy efficiency, photovoltaic panels were also incorporated as self-generation of electricity.
A seven-level concrete structure, on the first level, houses open spaces. Sustainable architecture for educational buildings was achieved through cross ventilation, which was accomplished through broken facades and planters, allowing an interesting relationship with a green atmosphere. In this level of university life and exchange, we installed hanging ceilings in the form of amoebas with cheerful colors; the night lighting was located there with indirect and direct light, giving a feeling of playful freedom during the hours of rest.
Important elements were the generous covered access to enter the building, the design of the stairs, which includes balcony spaces to allow casual meetings, and a rooftop where sports courts and pots with trees accompany them.
The biggest challenge was the design of the skin, a critical element that reduces the incidence of the sun. This was made with economic materials arranged in an original way (mesh and steel tubes), and it was necessary to do prototyping and exposing the materials to check their duration and effectiveness in the proposal. This screen provides a unique dynamic and original image, and in turn, has the function of achieving energy efficiency for the educational institution, giving a certain privacy to the classrooms and laboratories of medical education.
This medical faculty building, we consider it a different design in its challenges and solutions, always trying to introduce sustainable design concepts from its conception, complying with national safety codes, and providing a pleasant and healthy environment for its occupants.
